Sanibel Island off the westcoast of Florida is know for its abundance of beautiful seashells. The fact that there is no reef, means that the shells are not destroyed before they are washed up on the shore. Shelling is a big thing here and people get up at the break of dawn to find the best shells, that have washed up during the night.

A fun thing to do – apart from going shelling yourself – is to visit the National Shell Museum on Sanibel.
